AYURVEDIC BODY OILS

The ritual of self-massage is a powerful way to support harmony of mind + body + spirit 〰️

in ayurveda,

〰️

Massage is considered just as essential to health + beauty as a good diet and other lifestyle habits. As we age, the body naturally becomes drier + less supple, particularly in the skin + joints.

Practiced regularly,

oil massage becomes a simple ritual for countering these qualities of dryness and depletion while supporting

nourishment • mobility • vitality over time.

oiling your body

〰️

Traditionally, abhyanga is practiced before bathing: warm oil is massaged into the body, allowed to absorb for 5–15 minutes, and then rinsed away.

It can also be adapted to your routine—applied after a shower or, my favorite, used as a nightly ritual before sleep.

Don’t forget the soles of your feet.

According to Ayurveda

〰️

○ Moving from the center outward follows the body’s natural energetic pathways, supporting tissue metabolism and the distribution of ojas—the body’s vital essence.

○ Using long, linear strokes along the limbs encourages the natural flow of vata energy throughout the physical and emotional body.

○ Circular movements help release energy in areas where it can become “stuck,” leading to pitta or kapha imbalances.
